How's life? (Thank Shaboboo for making me write this)

A question you answer everyday, its one of those questions with an automatic answer. I think most of us have a standard response, not bad, I'm still breathing, whatever it is. Its a shame that the English language has degraded to the point where conscious thought can no longer exist in the working class conversation. Instead we are left with a bunch of cliches that are supposedly supposed to resemble a language. What sort of language will not allow us to express our deepest thoughts, no, worst what sort of language will not allow us the very vocabulary necessary to draft these thoughts in the first place.

But now back to the original question, a simpler question, How's life?

Ok

Now answer as if you weren't the only one alive on the planet.

Ok

Now answer as if human beings weren't the only life forms on earth.

Maybe a better question is "What is life?"

So what? Well perhaps next time someone asks you “how’s life” you’ll think about the polar bear nearing extinction or the thriving Pigeon, maybe you’ll think about Kosovo or Iraq, your neighbors new born child, or your cancer stricken grandmother, maybe you'll think about your new job and judge the world that your children will grow up in. Perhaps your response will be the same, even after your contemplation “Hey, I’m still breathing.” But at least it will be YOUR response. Why in the world would I ask you a question, when I know in response all I’m getting back is a meaningless spew of social idioms that mean even less to you than they do to me?

So let me pose this question to you one last time, please if you're going to respond with another man’s words, another woman’s ideas, just don’t bother. I don’t want environmental slogans, I don’t want political propaganda and I don’t want cliches, all I want to know is “how’s life?”

Well my life is absolutly no ones concern becaus ewho really wants to know about some ones life and if you do just watch some crappy reality tv show. Also to really answer that question would take to long thats why we use these short answers like "OK" and "Not Bad" so would you rather tell your life story to someone you barely know or just instantly answer with and ok?

busier answer-ers.. aww thaz life!
we the bizy bees attach to the idea "time flies" n so OK can save a bunch of seconds n minutes n time.Felt like *its not rite but its ok* :P

and yea amazingly how many times *ok* just flashed out automatically..either cuz i m to tired (which is not ok :P) or i dont feel like my personal life story need to be shared in details.

n beep beep! it also depends on who ask you *hows life* that you'll spend one second or an hour to answer..

but yea our life are goi' bit crazy eh.TRue that sometimes we need to have st more than *ok* ,more human communication or simply more vibration n sincereity in what we say.

Alexsnel, *not bad* is good word, longer than *OK* :P

hey tony, i know what you're saying. Life is sometimes too complicated to express in any amount of words. OK works best if you don't care to tell how your life really is, or if you know the person asking doesn't care to hear it. It has definatly become an automatic part of our lives, mostly a convo starter. I know a msn convo just doesn't move anywhere untill you ask that question... oh well

how's life? Do you really want to know? ;)
